Christina Alford is native of Atlanta, Georgia. Currently she is attending Kennesaw State University, in the pursuit of a Bachelors of the Arts with a concentration in photography.
All of Christina's work is inherently feminist. She uses her work to examine social issues, with an emphasis on the individual. While her body of work addresses larger social problems, each piece shows a person and how they have been effected by controversy in their lives. The goal in her art is to put a face and story to issues that will help others to empathize with other people.
Artist Statement:
The appreciation and observation of the human form is my most common theme; I explore the beauty and solidity that comes with the corporeal body and combine it with the surreal fluidity of the thoughts and dreams of the soul. The subject of much of my photography is figurative, wherein I like to explore themes of the mind creating emotions, and those emotions in turn influencing the mind. The figures in my work spotlight non-traditional beauty and bodies that are not typically seen as attractive in current popular media.
A goal in my photography is to explore social issues on an individual basis. I use the medium of photography give a visually appealing platform to explore personal experiences of myself and others to educate others and to learn from. With this goal in mind, I will continue to explore and manipulate the materials to articulate and discover the connection between consciousness and physical form in a way that expands my own and the viewer’s understanding of human nature.
